Andrew Todd has been at the Fonterra Research & Development Centre (FRDC) for 19 and a half years, specialising in chromatography. Recently Andrew moved into the laboratory automation space where he is looking at moving routine sample preparation methods onto the automation systems currently available, while also looking at future technologies.

In today’s world, laboratories are under pressure to deliver fast, efficient results, meet research goals and minimise errors. The goal is maximum profit, at the expense of human resources. Andrew Todd looks at how laboratory automation has transformed the way technicians and researchers handle sample preparation.
