Centre for Biodiscovery, Victoria University of Wellington. Joanne Harvey is an Associate Professor at Victoria University of Wellington. She teaches organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and reaction mechanism. Her research interest in synthetic organic chemistry is applied mostly to drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, although other synthesis targets provide additional inspiration. The opportunity to contribute to the understanding of azo dye toxicology by synthesis of a previously unconfirmed metabolite of tartrazine catalysed her interest in azo food dyes.
